5-Day Class (40 hours)
Colorado POST approved for grant funding (Course #ID-0005)
In these times of dwindling hiring pools it is important that each recruit in an FTO program be given effective training that offers every reasonable opportunity to succeed as a new officer without sacrificing the standards of the agency. Learning in the field training environment depends on both training and feedback. The FTO Development Class uses the San Jose Model of evaluation and provides the field training officer the tools to be an effective one-on-one trainer and coach.
The class is structured to use the participants’ own experiences as a foundation to increase their understanding of the principles of learning and evaluation in realistic situations. The class prepares participants to create and update training materials, to document performance, to recognize the trainee’s learning preferences and use those to expedite the training, to plan remedial training that will correct deficiencies in performance, and to provide critical input into retention and termination decisions.
